ASU poll: Southwest residents back health system reform - Phoenix Business Journal:

Arizona State University’s poll also showede that support for health care reform is highestramong middle-age respondents. Close to two-thirds of those ages 31 to 44 and 61 percenty of those ages 45 to 60said “wa great deal of reform” is needed. Fewed than 10 percent in these two age categoriesaindicated “no reform” is needed at all. Resultsw from the poll were based ona 45-question telephonwe poll conducted by the Institute for Social Scienc e Research at ASU.
The poll askec 501 adult residentsin Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and Texaes their opinions on several issues, includinv health care costs and quality, electronic medicall records and the On the question of the U.S. government guaranteeing health insurance for all even if it meantraising taxes, supportf was highest among younger while 42 percent of respondentd age 61 and older said they are “stronglyt opposed.” Specifically, 53 percent of all the respondentsa “strongly” or “somewhat” favored the U.S. government guaranteeinvg health insurance. That figurre jumped to 61 percent for thosw ages 18 to 30 and decreasecd amongolder respondents.
On the subject of healtj coverage, 89 percent of those polle d said they are covered by health a health plan provider bytheir employer, a governmen t program like Medicare or Medicaid, or something Of those who had health 72 percent indicated they are “very” or “somewhat” concerned that costsa will increase in the next year. Respondents also were aske d to evaluate healthcare – in this country and in their community.
Older respondents (ages 61 and and males rated the qualit of health care in this countryas “excellent” or – 53 percent and 46 percent respectively more often than younger respondents (ages 18 to 44) and femalesd – 36 percent and 35 percent respectively. The Arizona Statwe University-Southwest Poll was conducted by telephone March 30 toMay 10. The resulte from the full surveh have a margin of samplin error of plus or minus 4percentage points.
