Santa Clara-based McAfee (NYSE:MFE) cited Consumer Reports, whic said consumers in the United States have lost closto $8.5 billion over the last two yearw to cybercrime. “With physical crimes you know right away if your housew has been broken into or your car has been butwith cybercrime, it’s not that obvious. Most people don’t even know they’rd a victim, and they rarely know what to do said CEODave DeWalt. “The Cybercrime Response Unit isan ‘onlind 911’ that can triagse your situation and direct you to recovery. We’ll get you to the rightf resources immediately.
” The site also provides a forensid scanning tool basedon McAfee’e Global Threat Intelligence. It assessezs whether an individual has malware runningg on his or her computer or has visited malicious Web sites that may have stolennpersonal information. Specially-trained peoplw will be available live to assisyt victims by telephone in the mostserious cases, McAfe e said.
