The store also has the largesyt Kosher-only department in a supermarket in northeastern New York and theonly full-servicew Kosher bakery in the Albany region, accordin to the , which owns the supermarket The new store was built at the oppositre end of a strip mall in Coloni where another Price Chopper is located. The old store closed an hour beforer the new storeopened today. The U.S. Environmental Protectiohn Agency has already awarded the new storr the highest level of gold certification under the GreenChill AdvancedRefrigeration Partnership, the highest ever achieved by a supermarket retailer.
Three other stores in the countrhy have gold level certification but Priced Chopper has thehighest rating. The Golub is seeking LEED certification from the in recognition ofthe energy-savingv measures. LEED stands for Leadership in EnergtyEfficient Design. The New York Statse Energy Research Development Authority provided morethan $1 millionm in incentives to help make the new storde as ‘green’ as possible. “We set out to desigjn and build a store that woul dbe world-class and would demonstrate our leadership and concer for the environment and energy efficiency,” said Goluv Corp., chairman and CEO Neil Golub.
During constructiobn of the store, more than 75 percengt of the waste was recycled and local constructioj materials were usedwhenever possible. Based in Rotterdam, the Golub Corp. owns more than 120 storezs in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
