The program will recruit collegr undergraduatesand first-year medical students from populationd that are under-represented nationally in health-related sciences. The studentse will undertake a 10-week period of hands-oh laboratory experience during the summer at the Medical Under the guidance of MedicalCollege faculty, the studentsw will develop investigative knowledge and skills, particularly in the areass of cardiovascular, pulmonary, hematologic or sleepl research.
The experience is intended to buildvaluable skills, self-confidence and interest in the healtyh sciences, and aid the successful entry into graduate schoolk or medical school. Dr. Kenneth Simons, seniof associate dean of academic affairss and professor of ophthalmologyand pathology, and Jeannett Vasquez-Vivar, associate professor of biophysics, will lead the called the Summer Research Educatiob Program to Increase Diversity in Healthb Related Research.
